Taking Care of Caribou. Cape Bathurst, Bluenose-West, and Bluenose-East Barren-Ground Caribou Herds Management Plan.
The management plan "Taking Care of Caribou" describes principles and goals for managing the Cape Bathurst, Bluenose-West and Bluenose-East caribou herds. The management plan also describes current population estimates and trends, information needed to effectively manage the herds and guidelines for determining what management actions should be taken for defined population level thresholds. "Taking Care of Caribou" is accompanied by two companion documents, a Community Report on information recorded during community meetings ("Engaging Bluenose Caribou Communities") and a Science Report detailed the current state of knowledge of the herds ("Technical Report on the Cape Bathurst, Bluenose-West and Bluenose-East Caribou Herds").
Barren-Ground Caribou Harvest and Monitoring Summaries
These summary reports include information that was gathered during fall and winter harvesting seasons, beginning with the 2011 / 2012 season, and have been approved by the Barrenground Caribou Technical Working Group. The Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board (WRRB), the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories share responsibilities for managing and monitoring Barrenground caribou and their habitat in Wek’èezhìı. The three Parties work together to prepare annual harvest and monitoring summary reports, as part of the implementation of recommendations made by the WRRB in response to the Revised Joint Proposal for caribou management actions in Wek’èezhìı submitted by the Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories in May 2010.
