Water Gun Fun with Hungry Creatures

The WRRB was pleased to return and participate in Ecology North’s Rivers to Oceans Day at Somba K’e Civic Plaza on June 9.

Rivers to Oceans Day is a youth water education event held in Sǫǫ̀mbak’è (Yellowknife) every year. The WRRB partners with several other organizations like the GNWT Department of Environment and Climate Change and federal department of Fisheries and Oceans to promote awareness and engage youth about water resource issues.

The last time the WRRB participated was in 2019.

WRRB’s Laura Meinert, Wildlife Management Biologist and Simon Whitehouse, Communications Officer, hosted a station called ‘What Eats What?’
The purpose of the station was to educate students on what some water-related animals in Wek'èezhìı eat as part of their primary diet. Students were then quizzed on that knowledge and were asked to use water guns to shoot the food item off of a sawhorse.

A special thank you to Ecology North for allowing us to participate in the event this year.
