Board Meeting Update – May 25-26, 2021
The last Board meeting took place at the end of May in Yellowknife, and via Zoom. It was a short meeting, but the Board was able to accomplish some important things over the course of one and a half days. During the meeting, the Board reviewed the GNWT & TG Response to Wolf Reasons for Decision Report, received an update on the Wek’èezhìı Boreal Caribou Interim Range Plan, reviewed and approved the Revised Taking Care of Caribou Management Plan, the Wildlife Act Amendment (Phase 2 – Drones), a Commercial Timber Cutting Permit, and the Wildlife Management and Monitoring Plan for the Tłı̨chǫ Fibre Line Project, among other important decisions.
The Board also had several presentations via Zoom by Bruch Laurich from Environment and Climate Change Canada, Petter Jacobsen from the Tłı̨chǫ Government - Ekwǫ̨̀ Nàxoède K’è Program, Naima Jutha, who is the Wildlife Veterinarian for the Department of Environment & Natural Resources, and Xinhua Zhu from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, among others. The Board meeting was cut short due to a death in the Community of Behchokǫ. The Board sends its condolences to the Weyallon family.
