TASR Tour
July 26, 2021
On May 27, following our Board Meeting, the Board Members and staff went on a site tour of the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road (TASR), all the way up to mile 85. The Board Members were very excited to see the progress of the road, share stories, and learn about the process. The tour was led by Bruno Pigeon, who is the Project Manager of the TASR highway (now called the Tłı̨chǫ Highway) for Peter Kiewit Sons ULC. Our tour was COVID safe with three separate vehicles for Board Members and staff, and Bruno in his own vehicle. Masks were worn, and physical distancing maintained, wherever possible.
The day was beautiful, and a great deal of activity was observed throughout, including active quarry work, final construction of bridges, clean up along the sides of the road, and the entrance to the highway being built to connect the new Tłı̨chǫ Highway to Highway 3. The last stop of the day was at a large bridge crossing at La Marte River, just up from the falls. While we had hoped to see wildlife on the tour, there were not any around as we drove up and back. Shortly after we left, Bruno was able to catch some bison on the road and shared a photo with us. The Tłı̨chǫ Highway is expected to open by the end of November 2021.
