From Young Explorers To Future Leaders: WRRB Visits Mezi Community School!

This past June 2025, Mary and Laura visited Mezi Community School in Whatì to deliver a hands-on lesson for a grade 1/2 class focused on how northern animals use camouflage to survive. Students explored how animals blend into their environment across seasons using pelts from the Prince of Wales Museum’s Package of Pelts Edukit, making the lesson interactive and engaging.

The key takeaway: just because animals aren’t always visible doesn’t mean they aren’t there, and all creatures, big or small, play a role in nature. Students also got creative by drawing animals blending into their surroundings.

Mary and Laura also met with a high school group to share WRRB’s work and gather ideas for future youth outreach initiatives. These suggestions will help guide upcoming programs and strengthen WRRB’s connections with the community.

Masí cho to everyone who helped make these lessons engaging and memorable! We look forward to visiting Mezi Community School again as well as the schools in the other Tłı̨chǫ communities and continuing these fun and educational adventures.
