Born at Russell Lake in 1953, our WRRB Chair Joseph Judas spent most of his life as a harvester, hunting, trapping and fishing. Joseph and his family moved to Wekweètì in 1974 and remains there today.
During the 1980s, Joseph worked for the Government of the Northwest Territories as a forest fire fighter in Wekweètì. Joseph became the Chief of Wekweètì in 1998 and continued until 2005. From 2006-2008, Joseph was an originating member of the Wek’èezhìı Land and Water Board. He was a member of the Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board from 2006 to 2011, and the Chair from 2011 to 2013. He was a member of the Tłı̨chǫ Government Assembly on behalf of his community of Wekweètì from 2013 to 2017.
In 2019, Joseph returned to the WRRB as Chair until present.
Since 2006, Joseph has participated on a number of committees and working groups on behalf of the Tłı̨chǫ Government, including the Ekwǫ̀ Nàxoèhdee K'è Program and the Tłı̨chǫ Land Use Planning Committee, as a respected elder and advisor.
