Stu Niven

Stu Niven is a WRRB Board member with more than 35 years of experience in the environmental sector. His career began in hands-on fish and wildlife work, including time at a fish hatchery, hunting and fishing reserve, and in national parks supporting endangered species. He later worked as a regulatory biologist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, focusing on Indigenous consultation, environmental assessment, permitting, and compliance. Stu also contributed to major northern infrastructure projects during his time with the GNWT Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, managing environmental assessments and permits for major projects such as the Tłı̨chǫ Highway to Whatì, and the Tuktoyaktuk Highway. In retirement, he continues to support environmental stewardship through his work with the WRRB and volunteering at a local fish hatchery. Stu has been a Board Member since 2019.
