Forest Management Planning Begins

The WRRB, TG, and GNWT Forest Management Division have joined forces to begin working on the terms of reference for a Wek’èezhìı Forest Management Plan. The plan is based on the Northwest Territories Forest Management Framework approved by the WRRB in 2020. The purpose of the framework was to identify themes that could be addressed in regional forest management plans, and to provide a layout of how developing consistent community-based or regional forest management planning should be approached.

The Wek’èezhìı Forest Management Plan will be developed through a collaborative process with Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. Engagement will occur with the public, and other relevant stakeholders.

The plan will provide a means of providing support for healthy environments, economies, and society. The goal is that the plan will capture the priorities, objectives, and actions for forest management in Wek’èezhìı and will include measures to track progress. There is currently no release date for the plan, as it is still in the beginning stages, but keep checking back on our website and Facebook page for further details and engagement opportunities.
