WRRB staff took part in the June 2025 Rivers to Oceans Day hosted by Ecology North at the Somba K'e Civic Plaza in Yellowknife, sharing the important role water plays in supporting wildlife and healthy habitats.
Communications Officer Mary, Wildlife Management Biologist Laura, and Conservation Biologist Aimee led students through The Water Droplet Journey. Students became water droplets for the day, travelling from the clouds to land and rivers while learning how every drop of water helps support plants, animals, and healthy habitats.
Through the activity, we explored how water supports healthy habitats and the wildlife that depends on them. After each round of the game, students looked at which plants and animals received water and discussed how having less water available could impact different parts of an ecosystem. They learned that when one plant or animal is affected, it can create changes for other living things that depend on it.
The activity highlighted an important message: wildlife, water, land, and people are all connected. Healthy ecosystems depend on healthy habitats and the resources that support them.
